In January, then Ohio Governor Bob Taft signed into law a bill that requires health insurers in the state to offer the same coverage for mental illnesses as they do for physical illnesses. 

Ohio was recently one of 17 states to receive a grant for the Money Follows the Person (MFP) Rebalancing Demonstration.

Since the catastrophic events of 9-11 and Hurricane Katrina revealed huge gaps in planning for people with disabilities and those who have other specialized needs during an emergency or disaster, efforts have been underway on local, statewide and national fronts to improve emergency management and coordination. 

Implementation of the Help America Vote Act in 2006 provided new opportunities for people with disabilities to vote.
